What happens when your employer says 'no' when you ask for a pay raise?
Here's what you tell yourself: "Great, I now have a starting point!"
Remember, a negative is awesome because it signifies the beginning of a shift in your favor.
Now you have a starting point. Which means you have power.
It's time to ask probing questions:
The goal is to put your manager/employer into a problem solving role.
They've said 'no,' so now the onus is on them to navigate towards a 'yes.' Your role? Simply to guide and then listen.
They handle the heavy lifting.
Is it straightforward?
Yes!
Is it easy to execute?
Not always.
Because the primary shift has to come from you.
You have to feel comfortable enough with the 'no,' so you can take it places. Leverage it effectively.
And then, the key is to stay silent.
For most of us that is usually the hardest. The way to get good at it is creating goals and milestones. And then practice, practice, practice.
Know your worth & fight for it!

When you learn to spot them, you can position yourself as the...
You’re working very hard…sending resumes, applications, updating LinkedIn, refreshing resumes... But it’s not enough. It’s never enough. The result? Stalemate. A string of "no thank-you-s" or worst, ghosting. Working hard is not yielding any results. Why? Because, for some of us, the system is rigged. Once you acknowledge this truth, you can stop working harder towards an unattainable result and you can engineer the system to work in your favor. How? This is the story of a recent client: She...
